The African American Cultural Center home is the August Wilson Center for African American Culture. This architectural gem, designed by renowned architect, Allison Williams, has a 490 seat theater, dance studio, over 10,000 square feet of gallery space and various meeting rooms. This African American Cultural Center presents nationally and internationally recognized artists on the stages and in the galleries, as well as provides arts education and enrichment opportunities for local arts lovers of all ages.
All Star Code is a nonprofit computer science education program for motivated high school boys of color, building skills, mindsets, and networks through a signature six-week Summer Intensive and growing Alumni network. All Star Code creates economic opportunity by developing a new generation of entrepreneurs who have the tools they need to succeed in technology. The ultimate goal is to close the wealth, income, and opportunity gaps by developing a strong talent pipeline, creating diverse future leaders in America.
The six-week Summer Intensive program was expanded to Pittsburgh from NYC in the summer of 2017 with one cohort of 18 students hosted at Chatham University. Mentorships and exposure to tech culture through guest speakers and site visits complement the 200+ hours of learned technical and soft skills. The expansion in Pittsburgh will continue to grow in 2018.
